Expressing the deepest gratitude to our customers for their unexceptional support, TATRAS introduces a collaborative collection with the Japanese artist, baanai. This project also honors the legacy TATRAS has been carrying since the foundation of the brand.
TATRAS x baanai collab. features his signature design, “ARIGATOUGOZAIMASU” (“thank you very much” in Japanese).
Known for his unique graphic style, baanai started his career as an artist in 2015. Since then, he has contributed to numerous brand collaborations and had a series of successful solo exhibitions.
baanai fills the entire canvas with a persistent repetition of letters, layer by layer, taking the audience deeper and deeper into the work. He has been painting “ARIGATOUGOZAIMASU” every day for the past few years, which he calls an “experiment” and “challenge”.
baanai’s honest approach to art resonates with TATRAS’ approach to fashion.
Our DNA, “the pursuit of absolute best”, synchs with baanai’s motto: “persistence”, ”innovation”, and ”challenging spirit”. Multiple layers of letters signify our relentless challenges over the last 15 years to strive for better quality.
Along with our shared values, baanai’s work turns a simple word into a message and a piece of art. As an apparel brand, we chose clothes as a canvas to convey our sincere gratitude to our dearest fans. Together, a simple black garment becomes a meaningful art piece, connecting a brand and its customer closer than before.
The collection lineup consists of TATRAS’ signature item, down jackets, as well as sweatshirts in one color, urban black. Matching the mood, the monochromatic painting of the artist’s signature, “ARIGATOUGOZAIMASU,” was picked for pattern design.
In order to precisely project this pattern onto the garment, we used a new coloring method incorporating inkjet dye and screen printing. While inkjet “dye” brings out a layered pattern in detail, screen print “pigment” highlights the intensity of the top layer.
The collection is available for purchase exclusively in Japan.
